Whether it be they really want people to see this new picture of their cat or they thought of something funny that they wanted everyone to know.
It differs from person to person, obviously.
The biggest problem that people run into, though, is that they can't always think of a way to condense what they are thinking down to 140 characters, let alone to even less.
So, how do you get your joke, funny thought, thoughtful thought, or just plain idea out to the masses without breaking the Twitter bank? Simple:
1. Type out exactly what you are thinking, word for word, as many characters as possible.
2. Let what you just put down on the mobile app, Tweet Deck, Hootsuite or whichever application you are using, sit for a minute. It's just like writing a paper. The more you let something soak in, the better you are able to remove "unneeded" information.
3. Read what you typed out loud. It seems crazy, especially if you are in public, but it lets you hear what you typed out, out loud, most likely in the same voice that those reading it will hear.
4. Find the main message. For example: "I just went outside to check on my flowers, only to find a hoard of rabbits feasting on what I had just worked on for four hours on my only Saturday off." This is bad example, but just wait. The message is clearly the fact that you went out to see the fruits of your labor, only to be disappointed by the site of rabbits eating them.
5. Now that you have the message, start taking out what you don't need.
Ex.: "Went outside to check my flowers. Found a hoard of rabbits feasting, making my lost Saturday even darker." That post leaves you with 36 characters.
Just by taking out singular pronouns and filler, you go from untweetable, to heartbreaking tweet.
6. Finally, go over it one last time. A misspelled or dropped word can send a tweet into a spiral that it can't get out of, especially if you don't catch it after hitting send. Editing a tweet can either make or break whether your followers will care, or if they will just think you don't pay attention.
Twitter isn't difficult by any stretch, but it can sometimes be daunting. By following these six steps (you can add more if you'd like), you can make your tweets enjoyable to your followers while making you feel better for lost days off.
Whatever the case may be, don't be afraid to tweet your mind.
Sometimes, you may come up with something that you never thought possible, and something that your followers retweet you extensively for.
