10 Ways To Get More Traffic To Your Blog

Building a blog has never been easier!
That’s the good news AND the bad news.
Platforms like WordPress, Joomla, and blogspot have made it possible for virtually anyone to be able to create and maintain a quality blog.
Unfortunately for those of us trying to make a living blogging; when things become easy, more and more people are willing to try them.
Competition is at an all-time high.
So, while building a blog has never been easier; building a successful blog which sees a significant amount of traffic has never been more difficult.
Make no mistake about it, there is no magic formula that will drive thousands of visitors to your blog overnight.
Earning more traffic takes persistence and consistency over a long period of time. However, by utilizing these 10 tactics, you can dramatically increase traffic to your blog over the months and years ahead.

1. Blog About Topics You’re Passionate About.
Generating more traffic takes time.
It could take a new blog a few years to reach the point where it has enough traffic to be profitable, or at least profitable enough to survive on.
Many, if not most, people will give up long before they reach that point.
If you have no real interest in the topics you’re writing about, chances are, you won’t continue blogging long enough to get the desired results.
The bloggers who become successful are the ones who continue to stick with it after everyone else has given up.
Writing about things you genuinely enjoy is a great way to stay motivated when things aren’t progressing quite as quickly as you would like.
Plus, if you’re truly passionate about a topic, that passion will almost certainly shine through in your content and the quality of your posts.

2. At The End Of The Day, It’s All About Your Content!
You can’t expect to get more traffic to your blog if people don’t want to read your material.
Even the best marketing strategies won’t be able to compensate for poor content. Publishing relevant, quality content is far and away the most important thing to focus on for traffic generation.

3. Post Updates To Your Blog Regularly.
Posting frequently will increase your blog’s visibility.
You should be adding new content to your blog at least twice per week.
Three times per week would be ideal, provided it doesn’t affect the quality of your content.
Fresh content posted consistently will attract more traffic.

4. Use Article Marketing To Gain Exposure.
Article marketing is a great way to bring targeted traffic to your blog.
Not only will you be leveraging the article directories existing traffic, but you will also be gaining an authority one way backlink to your blog.
There are many different article directories, but if your main goal is traffic generation, I recommend focusing on EzineArticles.com
Google ranks their content highly, because they have an effective quality control system in place.
The two most important elements of your article are the title and the author resource box.
Create a title that entices readers to check out your article and be sure to include a strong call-to-action in the resource box.
Give your readers a good reason to click on the link to your blog.

5. Write Guest Posts For Other Blogs.
Guest blogging is one of the most effective ways to expose yourself to new audiences, gain quality backlinks, and drive tons of new traffic to your blog.
It’s also a fantastic way to establish yourself as an expert in your field and quickly build your industry profile.

To maximize the effectiveness of guest blogging, you will want to guest post for blogs whose target audience is interested in the type of content featured on your own blog.
You will also want to focus on writing for blogs that have a decent sized following, otherwise you might as well just post to your own blog.

6. Promote Your Posts On Social Networks.
Developing a strong social presence has become essential for successful bloggers. You need to be sharing your content with the masses, and today the masses are gathering on social networks.
Once you are able to grow a following of loyal fans who enjoy your content; your fans will begin sharing your content for you, allowing you to reach a much larger audience.

Don’t expect your blog posts to go viral instantly.
Building a strong social media following is much like getting more traffic to your blog, it takes time.
Leveraging the power of social networks requires a consistent approach of interaction with your audience and building relationships with them.
You can’t just push your content and expect results.
You must be an active, engaging participant who shares the content of others as much as you do your own.
Social media will become a more powerful tool the longer you develop your influence.

7. Make Sure Your Posts Are SEO Optimized.
Search engines represent the greatest possible opportunity for traffic generation. Every bloggers goal should be a high organic ranking on the search engine results page.
Unfortunately, many bloggers ignore search engine optimization due to lack of knowledge on the subject.
Basic on-page SEO is fairly simple and easy to implement.

8. Do Your Keyword Research.
In the last section, we talked about the importance of SEO for generating more traffic.
One of the most important parts of the SEO process is determining the search terms your readers are typing into the search engines.
These are the words or phrases you should optimize your post to rank for.
The Google AdWords Keyword Tool is a free, easy-to-use tool that helps you figure out what your audience is searching for.
Simply type some keywords into the “word or phrase” field, click search, and the tool will show you phrases that relate to the terms you entered.
The key to effective keyword research is finding search terms that get a large amount of monthly searches with low competition.
Use the chosen phrase in the title of your blog post and make sure the rest of the content is related to that subject.

9. Leave A Comment On Other Blogs.
When done correctly, leaving comments on the blogs of other’s can be a good source of new traffic.
The important thing to remember here is to add value to the conversation.
Don’t spam people with invitations to read your blog, but instead, share your opinion and expertise on the topic at hand.
Establishing your own credibility will go a long way toward making others interested in what you have to say.
If your comments are interesting and insightful, it is likely your blog posts will be as well.
Be sure to register with the blogs commenting system to receive a link back to your blog, making it easy for others to click through to your content.
